About Colorado Beer
In 1858 gold was discovered in the Rocky Mountains and as a result brewers began to show up to the state of Colorado. The brewers were making small batches of beer and selling their craft to the miners. In 1859 the Rocky Mountain Brewery was created and quickly became the largest brewery between St. Louis and San Francisco. In 1873 Adolph Coors made his way to Colorado with $3,000 and his recipe for Czech Pilsner. Coors grew rapidly until 1916 when Colorado enacted their prohibition law. When prohibition was repealed, Coors produced their first can of beer in 1959. Colorado’s first craft brewery, Boulder Beer Company, opened it’s doors in 1979. Since then there has been a surge of craft breweries opening in the state with New Belgium and Oskar Blues being a few notable craft breweries. Today there are well over 300 craft beer markers across the state with many more opening in the next few years.
