About the Brewery
In 1848 Jacob Best founded Best’s Brewery, which would later become the Pabst Brewing Company (located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin). By 1872 Frederick Pabst was the President of the company and they had become the second largest brewery in the US. In 1889 the company would officially change their name to Pabst Brewing Company. The company had a long history of producing beer, but during prohibition they were forced to switch over to making cheese for survival. Once prohibition was repealed, they sold their successful cheese business to Kraft and returned to making beer.

During the 1980’s beer sales started to decline and Paul Kalmanovitz purchased the company in 1985. By 1996 Pabst’s entire beer production was contracted out to the Stroh Brewery Company in La Crosse; and the Milwaukee brewery closed. In 2010 Dean Metropoulos purchased Pabst and announced its relocation to Los Angeles.

The company currently has a deal worked out with City Brewing Company who produces their beer. City Brewing has locations in La Crosse, Latrobe and Memphis.

Beer Reviews:
Tobin’s Review 3 out of 5
Pabst Blue Ribbon has a white golden color with a small head. I smell malt with a hint of grain and nose. The beer is soft with a little creaminess. Very light with a hint of carbonation. A drinkable beer indeed!
