About the Brewery
Lagunitas Brewing Company was founded in 1993 by Tony Magee in Lagunitas, California. A year later he was forced to move to Petaluma, CA when they outgrew the original location. By 2011 Lagunitas Brewing had 92 employees with distribution to 32 states. In 2012 Lagunitas announced plans to build a brewery in Chicago which started producing beer in 2014. In 2015 Heineken International swooped in and acquired 50% stake in the company to help it expand globally. In 2017, Heineken purchased the remaining portion making it sole owner of the brewery. Beer Reviews:
Tobin’s Review 3 out of 5
Newcastle Brown Ale isn’t what it used to be. I didn’t know at the time that they had begun brewing the beer at Lagunitas and that Lagunitas had altered the recipe. What used to be one of my favorites go-to beers has sadly turned into a disappointment. The beer still has that chocolate brown color that we have become so fond of. It’s still smooth with a mouthful of chocolate and nuttiness but I found it to be not as refreshing, a little more bitter and honestly just kind of flat. I will definitely cut back on my Newcastle consumption…. unless I can find the formula that is brewed in the Netherlands! DISAPPOINTING!!!
