About the Brewery
In 1759 Arthur Guinness signed a 9000-year lease on a dilapidated brewery at St. James Gate in Dublin. And just like that the Guinness Brewery was born. Guinness originally started out producing ales, but Londoners loved Porters so he switched to perfecting a darker beer.
Guinness expanded beer production in the 1960’s, brewing beer in Nigeria and Malaysia. In 2009, Guinness would celebrate their 250th year of beer production. Currently the brewery is run by Diageo and brews its beers in over 50 countries.
