About the Dogfish Head Brewery
In 1995, Sam Calagione founded Dogfish Head Brewing & Eats in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. When they first opened they were the smallest microbrewery in the United Sates, starting with 3 small kegs with propane burners beneath them. They would brew 12-gallon batches, 3-times a day which would serve their entire restaurant. This enabled the brewery to try multiple recipes.
In 2002, Dogfish Head began to hand-distill gin, rum and vodka on top of their beer production. 16-years later the Dogfish Head Brewery would become one of America’s largest breweries, brewing 15,000 gallons per day. This caught the eye of Jim Koch and in 2019 Dogfish Head merged with the Boston Beer Company. The company currently has three restaurants (with a Miami location opening soon), a distillery, a brewery and an Inn.
