About Dark Brown Ale Beer
Brown ale is a beer style that is top fermented and has a dark amber or brown color. Brown ale was derived in London in the 17th century and was used to describe mild ales. The beer was later dropped by the British due to the fact that pale malt was cheaper than the brown malt used to create the beers. It wasn’t until the end of the 19th century when brown ales were brought back, but they were much stronger than the original beers. Now the term ‘brown ale’ really just describes the color as the beers tastes vary from sweet and low alcohol, to medium strength with moderate bitterness, to malty hoppy beers.
