Description:
Saranac Joy to Ale is an amber beer with flavors of sweet caramel, biscuity malt and a smooth drinkability. The ABV for Joy to Ale is 5.5, and 23 IBUs%.

Glass to Use:
Amber beers are best served in a 16oz. pint glass.

About the Brewery
Francis Xavier ‘F.X.’ Matt came to the US from Germany in 1878, where he began working for Carl Bierbauer’s Columbia Brewery. In 1888, he would transform the Bierbauer Brewery into the West End Brewing Company. Prohibition was enacted in 1920 and the brewery would survive this terrible time in American history by producing Utica Club soft drinks. When Prohibition ended in 1933, the West End Brewing Co. was the first in the nation to obtain a license and to sell beer.

In 1980 F.X. Matt II would become president of the brewery and rename the F.X. Matt Brewing Co. in recognition of his grandfather. The brewery is now known as the Matt Brewing Company and it is the 4th oldest family-owned brewery in the US. It’s most popular beer is Saranac.

Beer Reviews:
Tobin’s Review 3 out of 5
Saranac Joy to Ale has a dark gold coloring with a really small white head. The beer has aromas of malt and molasses with sweet grain flavors that end dry without much on the post-palate. It’s almost as if you are enjoying the beer, then someone says… ‘the end’ and your taste buds stop picking up flavors. Overall it’s an incomplete tasting beer.

Abita Amber is a Munich style lager brewed with pale and caramel malts and German Perle hops. It has a smooth, malty, slightly caramel flavor and a rich amber color. Abita Amber was the first beer offered by the brewery and continues to be the breweries leading seller!

Glass to Use:
Amber beers are best served in a 16oz. pint glass.

About the Brewery
The Abita Brewing Company was founded in the Abita Springs, LA, which is 30 miles north of New Orleans. In year one, the brewery produced 1,500 barrels of beer and by 1994, they outgrew the original site (now their 100-seat brew pub) and moved up the road to a larger facility to keep up with demand. The brewery now brews more than 151,000 barrels of beer and 9,100 barrels of root beer. Their lagers and ales are brewed in small batches, hand-crafted by a team of dedicated workers with only the highest ideals of quality, and has been recognized nationally as one of the top craft breweries in the United States.

Beer Reviews:
Tobin’s Review 3 out of 5
Abita Amber has a nice rich ‘amber’ color. The beer has a deep aroma and a creamy caramel flavor, with a little hops on the finish. This used to be one of my favorite beers, but it’s not as complex as what I currently tend to enjoy- however it’s still an enjoyable beer.
