Beer Reviews:
Tobin’s Review 2.5 out of 5
Kershaw’s Wicked Curve has a murky honey hue with a small frothy head that dissipates quickly. The beer has sweet grapefruit aromas and starts smooth on the palate. The flavors are slightly sweet than it finishes with a bitter grapefruit. This is literally a grapefruit beer, kind of sweet and bitter with a grainy mouth. I love Kershaw and his nasty curve, but I am not a fan of his beer.

Shiner Holiday Cheer is a Dunkelweizen that is brewed with Texas peaches and roasted pecans. The ABV for Holiday Cheer is 5.4%.

Glass to Use:
Wheat beers are best served in a Weizen glass.

About the Brewery
The Spoetzl Brewery was founded in 1909 in Shiner, Texas. The original name of the brewery was the Shiner Brewing Association and it was headed by Herman Weiss who was the company’s first brewmaster. As the brewery gained in popularity they searched for a trained professional brewmaster which they found in Kosmos Spoetzl. Kosmos co-leased the brewery in 1914, and bought the brewery outright in 1915, changing the name to Spoetzl. Three years later prohibition would hit, but it didn’t shutter Spoetzl’s doors. They withstood this difficult time by selling ice and making ‘near beer’ (which is basically non-alcoholic beer.) After prohibition, the brewery resumed operations but kept business small. They never produced over 60,000 barrels in a year until the Gambrinus Company purchased the brewery in 1989. By 1994 production had grown to 100,000 barrels and it would triple over the next ten years. As of 2012 Spoetzl was the 4th largest craft brewery in the US.

Beer Reviews:
Tobin’s Review 3.5 out of 5
Shiner Holiday Cheer has a bronze hue, a thick off-white head and sweet peach aromas on the nose. The beer is semi-sweet, where it starts out sweet, then you taste the grain, a bit of bitterness and is followed by a lingering fruit finish. This is a really good holiday beer. Merry Drinkmas!

About the Brewery
The Abita Brewing Company was founded in the Abita Springs, LA, which is 30 miles north of New Orleans. In year one, the brewery produced 1,500 barrels of beer and by 1994, they outgrew the original site (now their 100-seat brew pub) and moved up the road to a larger facility to keep up with demand. The brewery now brews more than 151,000 barrels of beer and 9,100 barrels of root beer. Their lagers and ales are brewed in small batches, hand-crafted by a team of dedicated workers with only the highest ideals of quality, and has been recognized nationally as one of the top craft breweries in the United States.

Beer Reviews:
Tobin’s Review 3 out of 5
Abita Blueberry Wheat has a light golden hue with a small head, that pops with strong fruity blueberry notes. The beer is light in nature, and you can pick up a hint of fruit in the flavor. It’s not an overly fruity beer and is well-balanced!
