Description:
Project Barley Em Day’s Pale Ale is in partnership with pro beach volleyball player Emily Day. This deep golden pale ale has a dry grainy and bready malt with a hint of sweetness and toastiness. It has a clean citrus ester profile with a berry and tropical hop character. The ABV for Em Day’s Pale Ale is 5.1%.

Glass to Use:
Pale Ales beers are best served in a traditional 16-ounce pint glass.

About the Brewery
Project Barley was founded in 2018 by Rives Borland, Brent Reger and Lowell Bakke. The trio opened the Project Barley Brewery and Pizzeria in Lomita, California. Their goal was to focus on hand making small batch beer and keeping it local in the tap room. In 2022, Project Barley opened a second location- Project Barley Taps and Grill on the historic Redondo Beach Pier.

Beer Reviews:
Tobin’s Review 3 out of 5
Em Day’s Pale Ale has a nice deep golden hue with a small white head. I pick up sweet hop aromas on the nose with soft sweet hop flavors that are mellowed by the malt. This pale ale has more bite than your average pale ale and is a pretty good beer.

Beer Reviews:
Tobin’s Review 4 out of 5
Russian River Robert Saison has a murky light honey hue, soft white pillowy head and citrus malt aromas. The beer is soft, well carbonated and opens with a malted grain mouth and finishes with a bit of hops. The hops is slightly bitter which really balances the beer. This is a very well constructed Saison!

Tobin’s Review 3 out of 5
Firestone Walker’s C-Hops Pale Ale has a golden hue with a nice head on the pour. The beer has sweet aromas with light hops on the nose. The beer starts soft on the tongue and has a little bitterness. Overall it’s a nice beer with a little bite of hops at the end.

Beer Reviews:
Tobin’s Review 3 out of 5
Humboldt Brewing’s Nectar Pale Ale has a dark gold color with a nicely constructed head, with a slight citrus hops aroma. This beer is a stronger pale ale that is dry and a little bitter. I pickup a tinge of hops and the beer has a slightly burnt caramel taste. Overall it’s good, it’s just really dry and a bit different (not refreshing.)

About the Brewery
In 1871 Gottlieb Brekle bought an old saloon in San Francisco, which he would transform into a brewery. In 1896 Gottlieb’s brewery was purchased by Ernst Baruth and Otto Schinkel Jr. and the duo renamed it Anchor. Ernst Baruth would die suddenly in 1906, and Otto Schinkel Jr. would die in 1907 after being run over by a streetcar. Anchor brewing was in jeopardy until Joseph Kraus, August Meyer and Henry Tietjen came in to save the day. Unfortunately in 1920 Prohibition would hit and the brewery shuttered their doors once again. When Prohibition ended in 1933, Joe Kraus would begin brewing Anchor Steam Beer, until a fire would destroy the brewery. Kraus and a new partner, Joe Allen, would re-open the brewery and once again help to grow beer sales. Kraus passed away in 1952, and seven years later their sales declined and Allen would shut the doors.

In 1960 Lawrence Steese purchased Anchor, but 5-years later he was ready to close the doors. Fritz Maytag would step-in and buy 51% of the brewery, saving it from its imminent bankruptcy. In 1971, Fritz began bottling Anchor Steam and 4-years later they had produced four other distinctive beers. Fritz would announce his retirement in 2010 and sell the brewery to Keith Greggor and Tony Foglio. In 2017 Saporro purchased Anchor and remains the current owner of the iconic brewery.

Beer Reviews:
Tobin’s Review 3.5 out of 5
Anchor Pale Ale Citra Hop Blend has a white color with a slight haze and a small head. The aromas are very citrusy with flavors that are clean, crisp with a hint of hops. This is a nice soft pale ale!
