About the Brewery
In 1860, William D’Oench and Eberhard Anheuser purchased the Bavarian Brewery in St. Louis, Missouri. They would promptly change the name to E. Anheuser & Co. A year later, Adolphus Busch would marry Lilly Anheuser (who was Eberhard’s daughter) and in 1869, Adolphus Busch would purchase D’Oench’s share of the company. In 1879, the duo would change the name to Anheuser-Busch Brewing Association, and after Eberhard’s passing in 1880 Adolphus would become president.

Anheuser-Busch focused on pasteurizing their beer to prolong shelf life, and they began to ship their beer across the nation in refrigerated rail cars. Adolphus died in 1913 and his son August Anheuser Busch, Sr. would take over. During prohibition the company focused on selling brewer’s yeast, malt extract, ice cream and Bevo (their near beer brand.) August also built three upscale restaurants in the city.

The company successfully rode out prohibition and by 1957 they were the largest brewer in the United States. Anhesuer-Busch still controls a large majority of the US market and owns the following brands (Budweiser, Bud Light, Busch, Estrella Jalisco, Hoegaarden, Landshark, Michelob Ultra, Natural Light, Patagonia Cerveza, Presidente, Shock Top and Stella Artois.

They also have their Brewer’s Collective, which is their craft beer business unit. They represent the following brands (10 Barrel Brewing Co., Breckenridge Brewery, Blue Point Brewing, Devils Backbone, Elysian Brewing, Golden Road Brewing, Four Peaks Brewing Co., Goose Island, Karbach, Platform Beer Co., Wicked Weed Brewing, Veza Sur Brewing, Virtue Cider, maha organic hard seltzer and LQD.)

Bud Light Lime has a light see through copperish color with no head at all. The beer smells kind of a like a sugary lime sorbet. The mouth opens light with caramel lime flavors. Overall it’s a watery beer, without a lot of flavor and it actually tastes fabricated. Overall it’s just an average beer.

Budweiser Copper Lager really doesn’t have any head. The beer has sweet aromas with a light caramel smell. The beer tasted like a light Amber, with a light hint of sweetness. Overall this is a surprisingly good beer!

Budweiser has a light straw hue with a small white head that dissipates fast. The beer has a malt and slight grain aroma with a soft, light, malty, sweet mouthfeel. It’s an easy to drink beer that really does earn a four!

Description:
Boulevard Brewing American Kolsch has a European pilsner malt and malted wheat base. The beer is bittered with Magnum hops and features herbal, citrusy and spicy notes that come from the Tradition, Saaz and Saphir hops. This Kolsch has a golden color with bready malt and slight mint aromas. The beer delivers flavors of a honey-like malt sweetness that gives way to a crisp clean finish with lingering flavors of citrus and herbal hop flavors. The ABV for Boulevard Brewing American Kolsch is 4.6%.

Glass to Use:
Kolsch beers are best served in a pilsner glass.

About the Brewery
In 1989, John McDonald founded Boulevard Brewing Company in Kansas City, Missouri. By 1992 they were producing 7,000 barrels and by 2004 close to 100,000 barrels. In 2014 Boulevard Brewing became part of the Duvel Moortgat family, which produces Duvel. The company now produces 9-year round beers, as well as seasonal beers, their smokestack series and limited releases.

Boulevard Brewing’s American Kolsch has a dark gold hue with a white frothy head. I pick up notes of sweet malt on the nose. It is very bubbly and carbonated with malt flavors and a very dry aftertaste. I do detect a biscuity flavor in the beer as well. It is definitely not your average Kolsch, but is nice and light.
