Description:
Maui Brewing Coconut HIWA Porter is a robust dark ale with hand-toasted coconut and hints of mocha. It has an ABV of 6%.

Appearance: Deep brown to black
Aroma: Sweet coconut with a coffee/roast aroma
Flavor: Real coconut; subdued complexity of sweet & spicy

Glass to Use:
Lagers are best served in a Pint glass.

About the Brewery
Garrett Marrero and Melanie Oxley founded the Maui Brewing Company in 2005 in Kihei, Hawaii. The Maui Brewing Company is currently the largest craft brewing company in Hawaii and has a reputation for being innovative and fiercely local. The duo has also opened four brewpubs in Kihei, Lahaina, Kailua and Honolulu.

Beer Reviews:
Tobin’s Review 4 out of 5
Maui Brewing Coconut HIWA Porter has a dark black hue with a nice deep beige head. I pick up aromas of caramel and burnt sweet grain. The mouth is slightly dry with flavors of soft light burnt caramel mocha and a slightly dry licorice. It ends dry, but super tasty. It almost has a light brownie flavor.

About the Brewery
Kona Brewing Company was founded in Kailua-Kona by a father and son, Cameron Healy and Spoon Khalsa, in the spring of 1994. The company is dedicated to producing best-selling craft beers that reflect the spirit, culture and beauty of Hawaii. It produces an approximate number of 10 styles of beer on a regular basis. These are brewed sustainably by using solar energy system (roof-mounted photovoltaic system), which accounts for the 60% offset in the company’s electricity usage. The company brews more than a dozen of beers all year round, which are available in all 50 states. It also produces a limited batch of beers, specifically brewed in Hawaii. Since water is an important component of all Kona Brewing Company’s beers, the water is treated for impurities and added with minerals in order to mimic the freshwater in Hawaii.

Beer Reviews:
Tobin’s Review 2.5 out of 5
Kona Kanaha Blonde Ale is a light beer with a little haze to it. The head on this beer is small and it’s very fragrant. Unfortunately it’s not very good, as it tastes like a hairy fart. It starts out smooth but the hops clashes in this beer and it’s definitely not along the lines of a blonde ale. It honestly tastes like a really watered down version of an IPA. This is a definite miss by a brewery that usually produces hits.

Tobin’s Review 4 out of 5
Kona Light Blonde Ale has a light bronze hue without much of an aroma. The beer is smooth with a slight grain and malty flavor that ends dry. It’s an easy to drink beer, and is well balanced as well!

Beer Reviews:
Tobin’s Review 3 out of 5
Big Swell IPA has a very light gold hue with a small creamy head. You can definitely pick up the citrus hops on the nose. The beer starts out light at first, but finishes with a tinge of bitter hops at the end. Overall it’s a smooth beer, but definitely has a bitter finish.
